"I am a student pilot who was given some advice early on to buy the best headset you can afford. So I bought the Bose based on their reputation. My experience was just taking lessons in a 172 but could really tell a difference in noise reduction and comfort when compare to other pilots headsets. One Sunday afternoon my cousin flew his RV7 (GA Magazine's cover plane Oct 2008) up and my mind was changed. He had two of the Zulu headsets plugged in which gave me an opportunity to try another option in premium headsets.
The Zulu was quieter and sealed better than my Bose and just as comfortable. I then had the pleasure of comparing sound quality of the headsets, OK the legendary Bose sound should win here, no problem. I was again amazed that the sound quality of the Zulu was just as good and a touch more natural, which I like. At this point I have lost the bragging rights of having a better headset than my cousin. (Hey, we are all competitive in one way or another.)
Well, then he started showing and telling me about the features like Bluetooth connectivity. It was fun being able to call my mother to say, 'Hey, walk outside and look up we are flying over your house.' I will not soon forget the smile on my face while doing that. After my experience with the Zulu I told my girlfriend about them and how I wish had the opportunity to try them before I purchased the Bose because my decision would been different.
Well as fate would have it, on June 22, 2009 (my birthday even), my flight bag was stolen along with my Bose headset. I was devastated at the loss of my log book and other supplies. My girlfriend, understanding my pain, then says, 'Hey look at the bright side. Now you can get those other headsets you like.'
So on June 30, 2009, I will replace my old headset with the Zulu. My cousin and I are flying again on July 11th and I can't wait to show him my (newer than his) Zulu headset...AH I win again!"
Zulu. Change your mind.
